Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit — Every Major Card Revealed So Far

Spoiler season for Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit is well and truly under way. After an official debut panel at MagicCon Amsterdam on 18 July, daily card previews have been rolling out ever since — and with the set releasing on 14 August 2026, there is still plenty more to come before Prerelease weekend.

Here is a round-up of the biggest cards confirmed so far, plus what to expect over the final weeks of reveals.

How Spoiler Season Is Unfolding

The Hobbit (set code HOB) is a Standard-legal set containing approximately 280 cards. Spoiler season kicked off with a dedicated panel at MagicCon Amsterdam, which unveiled dozens of cards, introduced key mechanics, and gave players their first proper look at the full scope of the set. Daily partner previews are continuing through to 6 August, at which point the complete card list should be known ahead of the Prerelease window of 7–13 August.

As of 25 July, roughly 72 cards have been officially revealed, with around 129 still to come.

The Headline Cards

Smaug the Magnificent is an immediate focal point — a mythic rare Legendary Creature that has already generated huge excitement online. The dragon is one of the most anticipated cards in the set, and early reactions suggest the artwork and design live up to Tolkien fans' expectations.

Bilbo, Thief in the Night is one of two Bilbo Baggins cards confirmed so far, this version appearing at mythic rarity. A second, uncommon version — Bilbo, Luckwearer — comes with an Adventure half called Burglar's Plot, fitting neatly with the set's headline returning mechanic.

The Arkenstone // Seek the Heart is a mythic legendary artefact with an Adventure mode, making it one of the more complex and flavourful cards in the set. Similarly, My Precious // Allure of Power is a legendary equipment with an instant-speed Adventure half — and notably, this is a brand-new card distinct from The One Ring itself.

The One Ring does make a return, confirmed as a Box Topper reprint, giving collectors another chance at one of Magic's most iconic and sought-after artefacts.

Other confirmed mythics include Sauron, the Dark Lord (a Legendary Creature at Avatar Horror) and Gandalf, Party Guest, which was leaked slightly ahead of the Amsterdam panel. Rares include An Unexpected Party // At the Door, Riddles in the Dark, and Galion, Elvenking's Butler, with the latter revealed as recently as 25 July.

The Returning Mechanic: Adventure

The headline mechanic of The Hobbit is Adventure, making its return from Throne of Eldraine. Given how central the concept of a journey is to Tolkien's story, the thematic fit is excellent — cards that let you cast a spell first before the creature enters the battlefield suit the set's narrative perfectly. Several of the biggest mythics and rares already spoiled use Adventure, suggesting it will be central to both Limited and Constructed play.

Scene Boxes and Products

Rather than traditional Commander preconstructed decks, The Hobbit ships with two Scene Boxes — Crack the Plates and Treasures of Smaug. Each contains six exclusive cards whose artwork aligns into an iconic scene from the story, plus three Play Boosters per box. The first Scene Box depicts the dwarves' unexpected visit to Bag End; the second focuses on Smaug's hoard beneath the Lonely Mountain.

The main set, Gift Bundles, and Scene Boxes all hit retail on 14 August 2026. A Gift Bundle — containing one Collector Booster, season lands, and a foil box — follows later on 4 September.

What's Still to Come

With around 129 cards still unrevealed as of late July, there is a lot of ground left to cover. Expect Thorin Oakenshield and the full company of dwarves to be fleshed out further, additional lands — including the Middle-earth Journey cycle of full-art lands — and more Collector Booster-exclusive treatments to surface over the coming days.
