MTG Reality Fracture Prerelease Guide — What to Expect at Your Local Game Store on 25 September
By TCG Listing · 13 Sept 2026

Reality Fracture Prerelease events begin on 25 September, giving UK players their first chance to crack packs and play with the Echoverse before the 2 October launch. Here is everything you need to know.
Magic: The Gathering's next big set is almost here. Spoiler season for Reality Fracture kicked off on 8 September, and with the full Card Image Gallery due on 18 September, there has never been a better moment to get your local game store booked in for Prerelease. Events begin on 25 September and run through to 1 October, with the worldwide retail release following on 2 October 2026.
What Is Reality Fracture?
Reality Fracture is the final in-universe Magic expansion of 2026 and the climax of the Jace Beleren story arc. Jace — now calling himself the Theorist — has constructed the Echoverse: a mirror multiverse that excises the Phyrexians, the Eldrazi, and Nicol Bolas from history entirely. The set asks one enormous "what if?" question and answers it across every booster you open.
The story, written by Alison Lührs across ten episodes on DailyMTG, concluded on 10 September — so if you want the full narrative context before you sit down at Prerelease, you still have time to catch up.
The Key Mechanic: Echoed Pairs
The defining collecting and gameplay hook of Reality Fracture is Echoed Pairs. Every Play Booster and Collector Booster contains a linked pair of legendary cards — one from the familiar Multiverse, one from the Echoverse counterpart. Open a Chandra from the main set, and you will always find her Echoverse twin alongside her. This means no Prerelease pool will be entirely without its paired legendaries, and it shapes Sealed deckbuilding in a novel way: you will need to decide quickly which half of each pair serves your colours better.
Alongside Echoed Pairs, the set introduces the Shattered Mirror borderless treatment — applied to 13 alternate-reality twists on existing Magic cards — and features the five Elder Sphinxes as mythic centrepieces. The Commander product for the set, Multiverse Reforged, is a four-colour (WUBR) deck led by a new version of Jace Beleren with 18 new-to-Magic cards.
How Prerelease Works
Prerelease is a sealed format event. Each participant receives a Reality Fracture Prerelease Pack containing six Play Boosters, from which they build a minimum 40-card deck. No constructed preparation is required — it is an ideal event for returning players or anyone curious about the set before committing to sealed product purchases.
If you preordered any Reality Fracture products directly from a participating local game store, you can typically collect your order at the Prerelease event itself — handy for getting your hands on boxes a week ahead of the general public street date.
Prerelease events run 25 September – 1 October. Find your nearest WPN-registered store via the Store & Event Locator on the Magic website; most UK stores will run sessions across the weekend of 27–28 September as well as on the official start date.
What to Buy at Launch
For players, the Play Booster is your entry point for drafting and building a Sealed pool. For collectors, Collector Boosters guarantee foil and special-treatment cards, including Shattered Mirror variants. The Bundle includes 12 Play Boosters, a Collector Booster, 90 basic lands, and tokens — a solid all-rounder if you want a bit of everything in one box.
Reality Fracture is legal in all formats from release day. Commander players should note that Multiverse Reforged and the Special Guests cards are Commander-, Legacy-, and Vintage-legal.
Don't Sleep on Prerelease
With spoiler season wrapping up on 17 September and the complete card list going live on the 18th, you will have a full week to study the set before Prerelease weekend. Reality Fracture is shaping up to be one of the most mechanically inventive sets in recent memory — Echoed Pairs alone change how you evaluate every legendary you open. Get your store seat reserved now, because Prerelease slots tend to fill quickly for marquee releases.
