MTG Star Trek: The Four Commander Decks Explained — What's in Each, and Which One Is Right for You

With spoiler season now live and prereleases arriving 6 November, here's everything confirmed about the four Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek Commander decks — Federation Fleet, Landing Party, Klingon Fury, and We Are the Borg.

Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek releases on 13 November 2026, and spoiler season officially kicked off today, 20 October. While the main set has understandably grabbed the headlines, the four Commander decks that ship alongside it deserve their own spotlight. Each is a ready-to-play 100-card deck built around a different corner of the Star Trek universe, and each contains 33 brand-new Commander cards exclusive to the product — cards you won't find in the main set boosters.

The Four Decks at a Glance

Wizards of the Coast has confirmed all four deck names: Federation Fleet, Landing Party, Klingon Fury, and We Are the Borg. The names alone telegraph the flavour each deck is going for, and they span the breadth of the franchise — from Starfleet's finest to the relentless collective of the Borg.

The set as a whole is described as featuring "characters, stories, and spaceships from the entire franchise," with a new Spacecraft card type at the mechanical heart of the release. That card type, which was teased earlier in the Star Trek preview season, ties neatly into the Commander decks: Fleet-themed gameplay is an obvious fit for a card type that puts starships into play in a meaningful way.

33 New Cards per Deck

Each of the four Commander decks includes 33 Star Trek-themed Commander cards that are entirely new to Magic — meaning they are not reprints and do not appear in the main set boosters. For Commander players, this is significant: if you want access to all the new mechanically relevant cards the format will generate, you'll need to look beyond booster packs. Previous Universes Beyond Commander decks (such as those from The Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who) have consistently produced format staples that never appeared in draft boosters, and there's every reason to expect Star Trek to follow the same pattern.

Full decklists and the remaining new-card reveals will be published daily in the official Card Image Gallery, which updates every weekday morning throughout spoiler season. The complete gallery is due to be available on 30 October.

Prerelease and Release Dates

Prerelease events for Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek run from 6 to 12 November 2026 at local game stores, giving you the chance to crack packs and play with the main set a week before it hits shelves. The Commander decks themselves release on 13 November alongside the main set.

If you want to secure a Commander deck at the prerelease price or guarantee your copy before street date, the decks are already available to preorder from local game stores and major online retailers.

Which Deck Should You Pick Up?

Without full decklists confirmed at time of writing, the best guidance comes from flavour and commander strategy:

  • Federation Fleet is likely to lean into wide, cooperative or go-tall Spacecraft strategies — think Azorius or Bant colours built around assembling a powerful armada.
  • Landing Party evokes the away-team episodes and could reward aggressive, creature-forward gameplay, possibly in Gruul or Naya colours.
  • Klingon Fury all but telegraphs a red-black or Mardu aggro/combat theme, which historically produces some of the most fun Commander decks for players who enjoy turning creatures sideways.
  • We Are the Borg is the one to watch for combo enthusiasts — assimilation as a mechanic lends itself to stealing, copying, or overwhelming opponents, and blue-black Borg decks have enormous design space.

Full decklists will clarify everything. Keep an eye on the Card Image Gallery and check back here as the spoilers roll in between now and 30 October.

Where to Buy in the UK

All four Commander decks will be available from UK local game stores and online retailers on 13 November. Prices will vary by retailer, but Commander decks in recent Universes Beyond sets have typically landed in the £35–£50 range at UK independent stores. Preordering direct from your LGS remains the safest way to guarantee a copy of a specific deck, particularly for Borg and Klingon Fury, which are likely to be the highest-demand picks.

Spoiler season is live now — the next few weeks are going to be a great time to be a Star Trek fan and a Magic player.
