One Piece Card Game OP-16: The Time of Battle Lands on 12 June — Everything You Need to Know

The Paramount War comes to the One Piece Card Game this week as OP-16: The Time of Battle releases on 12 June 2026, bringing six new Leaders, Impel Down and Marineford characters, and the closest East–West launch gap in the game's history.

The One Piece Card Game's next major chapter is almost here. OP-16: The Time of Battle releases on 12 June 2026, and the hype surrounding it is some of the biggest the game has seen — thanks to a landmark theme, a shaken-up meta, and a release window that finally puts Western players almost on equal footing with their Japanese counterparts.

The Paramount War Returns

OP-16's central theme is the Paramount War — the iconic clash between Pirates and Marines that defined a generation of One Piece storytelling. Characters from both Impel Down and Marineford flood the set, and Bandai has confirmed that all six Leader cards have now been revealed, each tied directly to the conflict. One of the set's most-talked-about additions is a brand-new Leader card for a character who had a decisive influence on the war and had never previously held a Leader slot — a moment fans have been waiting years for.

The full card pool is built to synergise tightly with these Leaders. Black Yellow Teach is already being talked about as the strongest Leader in the set, while Green Blue Luffy is considered the second-best — with cards like a new Hancock acting as a flexible finisher that can slot into multiple green-based aggressive strategies. A Black Yamato Leader rounds out the top tier, capable of chaining Characters out of the trash repeatedly and granting them all Rush in the process.

For collectors, an alt-art Luffy — depicted landing alongside a Marine-blasting Ace — is expected to be one of the primary chase cards. It ties in neatly with the simultaneously releasing Luffy & Ace Starter Deck EX, making the illustration feel like a commemorative piece as much as a playable card.

A Historic Release Window

Perhaps the biggest story around OP-16 isn't any single card — it's the timing. The Time of Battle is launching in the West just two weeks after its Eastern debut, the smallest gap in the game's history. Previously, Western players faced delays of up to three months, meaning competitive decklists had been solved long before product hit shelves in Europe. That era is effectively over for this set.

The practical consequence is real: players who want the strongest decks will have to do their own brewing from scratch, at the same time as everyone else in the world. It levels the playing field considerably and should make the first few weeks of OP-16 competitive events genuinely unpredictable.

Pre-Release Events Happening Now Across the UK

If you haven't already locked in a spot, the pre-release window runs from 5–11 June, with release events taking place at local game stores throughout the country. UK stores including Goblin Gaming and Puca Puca Games are running sealed events this week, with entry granting access to a release pack and promo cards — including the Marineford Luffy promo and its stamped Winner variant for top finishers.

Pre-release events use Sealed format (six packs), so they're an ideal way to get your first look at the set's power level without needing a built deck. Check the Bandai TCG+ store locator to find your nearest participating store.

What to Look Out For on Release Day

Beyond the booster packs, 12 June also sees the launch of accompanying Starter Decks and the Luffy & Ace Starter Deck EX. If you're new to the game, the standard Starter Decks include a 50-card preconstructed deck, a Leader card, 10 DON!! cards, and Basic Rule index cards — everything needed to play straight out of the box.

For seasoned players, the priority will be getting booster boxes opened quickly given the concurrent global release. Whether you're hunting competitive staples or chasing alt-art illustrations, OP-16 is looking like one of the most rewarding sets to crack since the game launched.
