Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration: New Futuristic Rare Cards Revealed — Everything We Know
By TCG Listing · 13 Jun 2026

The Pokémon TCG's 30th anniversary set just had its biggest reveal yet, including a brand-new 'Futuristic Rare' rarity and the first-ever worldwide simultaneous launch. Here's everything confirmed so far.
The countdown to one of the most significant Pokémon TCG releases in the game's history just got a lot more exciting. On 6 June 2026 — Day 1 of the Pokémon Japan Championships 2026 — The Pokémon Company officially unveiled key new details about the upcoming 30th Celebration set, including confirmation of an entirely new card rarity and several headline products.
What Was Just Revealed
The announcements made at the Japan Championships centred on three products: the 30th Celebration Futuristic Box, the 30th Celebration Premium Deck Set: Espeon & Umbreon, and the 30th Celebration Card Set.
The headline reveal is the new "FUR" (Futuristic Rare) rarity. The Futuristic Box features two copies of Pikachu ex in this brand-new tier, described as characterised by vibrant, colour-rich visuals designed to evoke a vision of the future — a finish unlike anything currently in the card game. Early previews had already shown Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Mew in an opalescent, shimmering effect that shifts subtly in different lighting conditions, separating it visually from existing Rainbow Rares, Special Illustration Rares, and Hyper Rares.
Also confirmed is the 30th Celebration Card Set, themed around First Partner Pokémon (starters) spanning a wide range of generations — a card set expected to draw significant attention from long-time collectors and fans.
Release Dates and Products
The Futuristic Box and the Espeon & Umbreon Premium Deck Set are both scheduled for 16 September 2026 in Japan, with international markets — including the UK — expected to receive the set on 18 September 2026. The 30th Celebration Card Set follows slightly later, on 16 October 2026.
The wider 30th Celebration expansion itself is shaping up to be extraordinary on paper. The set is expected to contain roughly 150 cards across all-foil six-card packs — meaning every single card you pull will be holofoil. The set also reportedly includes 30 unique Pikachu illustrations, 30 classic reprints (with Base Set Charizard among the confirmed returns), and the new Futuristic Rare cards featuring artwork by artist YOSHIROTTEN, with Mewtwo ex and Mew ex among the chase pulls.
Critically for UK collectors: this will be the first-ever worldwide simultaneous Pokémon TCG release. There will be no Japanese head-start this time — every market gets the set on the same day. That eliminates the usual two-to-three month window where Japanese collectors have access to cards that Western players cannot yet obtain, and should reduce the import price pressure that typically accompanies major anniversary releases.
Why This Matters for Collectors
2026 is already Pokémon's 30th anniversary year, and the TCG has been celebrating throughout — from the First Partner Illustration Collection to special World Championships decks. But 30th Celebration is the centrepiece.
Historically, major anniversary sets have been among the most sought-after products the hobby has produced. The 25th anniversary sets generated enormous demand, and this one is arriving with a genuinely new rarity tier for the first time in years, a stacked reprint roster, and a structural change (the simultaneous global launch) that levels the playing field between regional markets.
For competitive players, the next main expansion to watch before Celebration arrives is Mega Evolution: Pitch Black, releasing 17 July 2026, headlined by Mega Darkrai ex alongside Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, and Mega Excadrill ex across more than 115 cards. Pre-release events for Pitch Black are scheduled for 4–12 July.
With the second half of 2026 stacked — Pitch Black in July, Storm Emerald (Mega Rayquaza ex) expected around September, and 30th Celebration shortly after — this is shaping up to be one of the most packed and exciting Pokémon TCG release windows in the game's history.
