Pokémon TCG First Partner Illustration Collection Series 2 — Johto, Unova & Galar Starters Arrive 19 June

The second wave of The Pokémon Company's stunning First Partner Illustration Collection lands on 19 June, spotlighting starter Pokémon from Johto, Unova, and Galar with special Illustration Rare promos.

With the Mega Evolution era in full swing, The Pokémon Company is threading a second celebration through 2026 — one dedicated entirely to the starters that defined generations. The First Partner Illustration Collection Series 2 releases on 19 June 2026, and it is shaping up to be one of the most appealing collector-focused products of the summer.

What Is the First Partner Illustration Collection?

The First Partner Illustration Collection is a special product line running alongside the main Mega Evolution expansion releases. Rather than introducing new mechanics or a fresh card pool, it focuses squarely on atmosphere and artwork, presenting beloved starter Pokémon as premium Illustration Rare promos. Series 1 launched on 30 March 2026 and set the tone; Series 2 picks up the baton just a few months later.

Each product in the collection pairs a high-quality Illustration Rare promo card with a selection of booster packs, making it a natural buy for collectors who want showcase-worthy cards without diving into a full set release.

Which Pokémon Feature in Series 2?

Series 2 puts the spotlight on the starter Pokémon from three generations: Johto (Gold & Silver), Unova (Black & White), and Galar (Sword & Shield). That means Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile from Johto; the Unova trio of Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott; and Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble from Galar are all in the frame.

The Illustration Rare treatment gives each starter an atmospheric, painterly presentation — a significant step up from standard card artwork. For collectors who grew up with Gold & Silver or Black & White, the Johto and Unova promos in particular are likely to generate strong demand.

A third series covering Hoenn, Kalos, and Paldea starters is expected later in 2026, so Series 2 sits at the midpoint of what is effectively a year-long tribute to every generation of starter Pokémon.

How Does This Fit Into 2026's Bigger Picture?

2026 is an enormous year for the Pokémon TCG. The Mega Evolution block is rolling out across multiple main expansions — Chaos Rising arrived in May, Pitch Black (featuring Mega Darkrai ex) is set for 17 July, and Storm Emerald is expected to follow later in the summer. Beyond that, the landmark 30th Celebration anniversary set is scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release in September, the first time the Pokémon TCG has coordinated a global same-day launch across all regions.

Against that backdrop, the First Partner Illustration Collection occupies a different niche. It is not a competitive release — you won't be pulling these promos to build tournament decks — but it is a thoughtful acknowledgement of the franchise's history, timed to run through the anniversary year.

For UK collectors, these products are widely available through local game stores and online retailers, making them easy to pre-order or pick up at launch on 19 June.

Should You Pick It Up?

If you have a soft spot for any of the three generations featured — and given Johto's enduring popularity, many collectors do — Series 2 is worth serious consideration. Illustration Rare promos from special sets tend to hold their appeal over time, and the focused, generation-specific framing makes individual products relatively accessible compared to chasing cards across a full expansion.

With Series 3 still to come and the 30th Celebration set on the horizon, it is also worth thinking about the collection as a whole. Completing all three series would give you a comprehensive set of starter promos spanning every generation — a fitting tribute to 30 years of the Pokémon TCG.
